Viva Villahermosa

The pool was a nice break from Villahermosa's stifling heat, but there was no lifeguard, so parents need to watch their kids. Our room was comfortable and had AC, which really mattered that day. The hotel is cozy and centrally located. The restaurant served some nice food, though the service was lacking. It was an enjoyable stay, but they could use another server.

The staff were very helpful, and English-only speakers would likely have no trouble, since many staff members spoke English well. Breakfast was quite good, and I'd recommend it. Our room was clean, though the AC leaked water and I think it smelled of mold. The hot tub was empty.

Our room had a balcony, a coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, safe, soap, and shampoo. The rooms are very spacious and clean, and we stayed for 12 nights. The parking lot was lit at night and secure. We ate at the hotel, where the food was delicious and reasonably priced. It's also within walking distance of the Olmec stones museum.

Google Maps sends you around to the back of the hotel, but the actual entrance is on the main highway, across from Office Depot. There's ample parking. In my opinion, this deserves three or four stars, not just two. It's not new, but the public areas are elegant, the pool is beautiful, and front desk service is prompt and friendly. The restaurant and room service are very good. We stayed at two other '3 star' hotels in Villahermosa, as well as Hotel Viva, and Hotel Viva was by far the best of the three.
