Hotel Xpujil

The best part was being allowed to wait on the terrace with hammocks after checkout, while our night bus was still hours away. After a 12-hour tour of Calakmul, that was exactly what we needed, and we really appreciated it. They also kept our bags safe all day while we were on the tour. Our room was clean and nice, the bed was huge and comfortable, and the staff were always friendly and spoke great English. Nothing but good things to say.

The staff were great and the room was good, but the place isn’t very soundproof. Other guests were loud until 2 a.m. Maybe they could stagger room assignments or put guests at opposite ends. There was also a drain smell from the shower. It goes away after a shower, then returns overnight. I suspect one of those flat plastic caps about 4 inches wide would fix it.

Accepting small or medium dogs was the biggest factor for me, even though I was leaning toward a two- or three-star rating. The setting is nice, the rooms are spacious, and there’s parking, a pool, AC, and credit card payment. The Wi-Fi connects, but the internet is so bad it’s completely useless. There’s also a 4% credit card surcharge and a 100-peso fee for each dog. The rooms are a little run down. We were there during a cold front, and the shower only got lukewarm. One bed had a waterproof mattress cover that crinkles, so take it off unless you want to hear it and sweat all night.

I left my laptop behind and didn’t realize it until 12 hours later. When I called, they told me they were holding it for me, and I picked it up the next day. The staff were trustworthy, and the rooms were super clean with great water pressure. I stayed with two dogs, and the hotel is pet friendly. I’d stay again.
