Hostal el Hobbiton

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the kitchen has what you need. There are two shared bathrooms, both fine. The walk into Zacatecas’ historic center and the cathedral takes around 10 minutes and is easy downhill, but coming back up is steep and a bit of a challenge. The hostel is small and cute, with clean, comfortable rooms. There’s a six-person room, a four-person room, and a small private room with a cute queen bed. The two smaller rooms can get very hot because they have no window. A fan or ventilator helps, though it’s loud. The large room has a little window but no fan or ventilator. Shared rooms are very cheap per person, but I’d pick the private room or the larger one since the smaller room is warm and dark. The front desk is unattended from about 8 pm until morning, but the entry security lock works well and only guests can get in overnight. There are a few things that could be better, but for an inexpensive hostel, it’s fine for the price. The main issue is that the doors don’t lock, even though they give you a key, including the private room.

Such a lovely atmosphere here, and you can tell the place was put together with a lot of care and passion. It’s clean, and much better than the other nearby hostels. Best hostel in Zacatecas.
