Hotel Sierra Norte Inn

The rooms are nice, and the location is handy for groups because large trucks can’t go into downtown Zacatlán. The two stars are for the service. When we booked for our group, they asked how many adults and children would be in each room, including each child’s age. We requested rooms with double beds, but the hotel treats “double” as meaning one queen-size bed. We arrived at night, having already paid in advance, and didn’t get what we’d agreed to. Families with small children were split between two rooms, and women who weren’t related had to share a bed. I’ll give the hotel the benefit of the doubt that they didn’t know whether those women were related. Our room was for four people, but we got only one double room with one queen-size bed. Zacatlán was full for the season, and it was late, so we weren’t going to search for another hotel. We accepted the room and asked for enough bedding for two people to sleep on the floor, plus two extra towels. The manager on duty was apparently only authorized to give us one thin blanket for the floor, two thin blankets, and one towel, so they wouldn’t have to charge us. Nobody had asked them not to charge us; we could have paid, given that they’d broken the agreement. Thanks for the generosity and consideration, I guess. We made do with what we had so the person on the floor could sleep comfortably. Two of us slept normally in the bed, while another slept at its foot. When it was time to shower, one of us had to dry off with the damp towel someone else had already used.

I booked through a travel agency and found the hotel spotless and welcoming. The room was lovely, with hot water, and the staff were attentive and friendly. The service was incredible.

It’s pet-friendly, and both the cabins and the service were excellent. The only drawback was the road noise.

The room had a cigarette and sewage smell. They did move us to another room, fortunately, but there’s no heating or elevator.
