I extended my stay by a week and moved from the old wing to the new one for only a few pounds more per night, about RM25. The lift was the main practical benefit, since the old wing only has stairs, and the city view from the window was excellent. I spent almost two weeks here and found it good value, clean, friendly, and very comfortable. It’s central enough for a short walk to the padang and Aman mall. There’s an open terrace by the entrance that’s lovely for sitting with a book and coffee. With the large swimming pool and sports facilities, locals are often coming and going, which gives the hotel a lively feel. Reception and shop staff were friendly, too. Lots of families were staying while I was there, and the atmosphere felt safe and quiet. The housekeeping team deserves a mention: they cleaned my room thoroughly every day and replaced the coffee sachets and toilet tissue. They’re true professionals who clearly take pride in their work.

My friends and I were backpacking through Alor Setar and looked at this hotel because it has a swimming pool and badminton court. After finding food and sorting things out, we went over, but the reception girl and boy gave us a really bad experience. They didn’t greet us, and their facial expressions made us feel unwelcome. When we asked about rooms, the suggestion from the girl and boy made it seem like we weren’t meeting their expectations. Call or walk in and you’ll know what I mean. There were two room options, one with a lift and one where you had to use the stairs. We didn’t mind the stairs. But when my friend handed over an ID to register, they asked for a deposit. I understand the rule, but we were paying by card and, these days, most people are cashless. The girl told us to walk for 15 minutes to get cash. We had just walked there, and only had RM20.00, so I politely explained that. She said it wasn’t possible. I told my friend we didn’t need the hotel and we’d take a train home. The girl and boy gave us more bad looks as we left. Why treat guests like this? Give people a fair chance to stay and greet them warmly. I know this isn’t a 5 star hotel, but the attitude was OYO standard. Oops, OYO treats guests better than you. Please review the feedback and make the experience better for both OTA and walk-in guests. I’m truly disappointed with the service. If guests don’t have cash, please use pre-authorization. Is that so hard, or was there no training? Please change this. Thanks for the wonderful experience.

I went to use the swimming pool. Entry was RM6.50. Everything else was fine, but the women’s toilet wasn’t very clean, with hair around and no bin liner. Please keep it maintained, or have a female staff member clean it more often.

The room had plenty of space, and the hotel was very good overall. Cleanliness could be better, though, and the toilet water pressure was so weak that showering took longer.

My room was really clean and had a nice view. It had also been renovated recently, and the price was affordable.
