The Jerai Hotel Alor Star

The location is a big advantage, close to the train station and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The room is large enough for four adults, with adequate facilities, an iron and board, and a flat screen TV with plenty of channels. The poor reception takes some of the fun out of watching, though. The bathroom is the weak spot. It's small and feels cramped, but the hotel's good points outweigh that drawback.

We've stayed at a couple of hotels here and The Jerai has made our list of places to stay. As seasoned travelers, we've tried everything from five star and boutique hotels to motels and inns, and The Jerai holds up well. The staff are gracious, warm, friendly, and attentive, and our room was fine with the basic things we needed. The restaurant serves good value meals, and breakfast was included in our room, which was a welcome bonus and a good start to a day out. The property could use fresher furnishings and fittings. It's surprising that more guests who've stayed here aren't more generous in their reviews.

I checked in Saturday, 27 December and checked out Sunday, 28 December 2025. Mr. Hafez Suib at the front desk deserves recognition for his respectful, courteous service and the genuine care he showed guests. People waiting to leave or checking out late don't always get that level of attention, but he treated us professionally throughout. I'm only returning to Kuala Lumpur today, and this experience is enough for me to recommend staying here. His service stood out.

The location in Alor Setar made getting around easy, and I had a comfortable stay in a well kept room. The staff were welcoming and their service was excellent. A good place to stay.
