Flamingo Hotel by The Lake

We drove from home this morning after calling two days earlier to check on the breakfast buffet. We were told walk-ins were fine, no booking needed, at RM25 per person from 6:30 to 10:00, including Saturday. We got there at 7:52, within those hours, but were turned away because it was “full.” I’m angry and feel cheated. Our time, effort and money were wasted, and the way we were treated was frustrating. A hotel should be reliable and respectful to guests. Giving us one set of information and then refusing us entry was unacceptable and unprofessional. This so-called 3-star hotel let us down. I don’t want to use or recommend it again.

The view was the one good part of our stay. The room and toilet both smelled damp and musty, and I felt Agoda’s marketing had misled me. I’d seen photos of a fitness area because my husband and I make a point of using the gym when we travel, but when we arrived they said it had been closed since 2000. For the price, the service wasn’t worth it. The staff weren’t friendly, and even though I speak Malay, I had to repeat my requests several times before they understood. Getting something as simple as towels took far too much effort. The stay wasn’t worth the money.

My first hotel stay in Kuala Lumpur was mostly quite good. The room didn’t block much sound, though, and late at night I could hear intimate activity from next door. Cigarette smoke also came through strongly, which was unpleasant.

I’m really disappointed with Flamingo Hotel. I called two days ahead about the RM25 breakfast buffet and was told walk-ins were accepted. After getting up early and driving over, I paid the RM10 entry fee, only to be told it was full. I’d confirmed by phone before setting out. They need to give clearer information or suggest reservations so customers don’t waste their time. What a SCAM....
