Hong Kong Hotel

The owner is Hainanese, and this three-star hotel also has a restaurant. Breakfast is non-halal, while lunch and dinner include Chinese à la carte dishes and steamboat. The other dishes are not bad, but I wouldn’t order the kangkong belacan, it wasn’t as tasty as versions I’ve had in KL, Ipoh or Penang. It’s in the middle of Brinchang oldtown, within walking distance of halal and non-halal eateries and KFC.

The hotel was clean and good, and everything else was fine. One man at reception wasn’t friendly and didn’t smile. I couldn’t tell whether he was the owner or a staff member, but customers should be treated well.

There’s food all around, though you’ll need to walk to it, and the location is excellent. The carpark is a weak point, and the in-room amenities are very sparse: no soap or shower cream, and no kettle, just a shared water dispenser. There’s no lift to the upper floors, so I wouldn’t recommend it for guests with elderly people. Communication with the hotel was lousy too, and the inquiry number on the booking site didn’t exist. Very disappointed. They could do better.

We paid under 100 through Traveloka for a Deluxe Queen with balcony, and got the top floor, the fourth, overlooking the busy Brinchang town center. The room was spacious and simple, with a clean bathroom, balcony, and a small dressing table with a mirror. There was no wardrobe or safe. At that price, I can’t complain. There’s no lift, which was fine for us, though it may not suit elderly guests or families with very young kids. Each floor has a water dispenser with hot water. The hotel is right in the heart of Brinchang, and dining at the Hong Kong Restaurant downstairs comes with a 10% discount on food and drinks. Like other similar hotels, it doesn’t provide parking. Get a coupon from the nearest sundry, Ramasamy or another authorised parking coupon agent: RM0.60 per hour, or RM6 for a full day from 8am till 6pm, valid at public parking throughout Cameron Highlands township!
