The shower setup asks you to stand sideways because of where the toilet sits, and the water pressure changes, sometimes dwindling to a contemplative drizzle during busy hours. The bathroom is a wet room, with a hose for washing instead of toilet paper and no bidet head. Towels don't dry well because the bar is inside the shower. A shallow sink makes washing your hands a close encounter with the ceramic. Sleep is a communal affair here. You can hear other guests talking and the outdoor speakers right outside, while ground floor rooms may catch smoke drifting in from outside. Mosquitoes and the occasional lizard are part of the indoor atmosphere. The air conditioner looks like it could be a dust exhibit. The bed is so firm it's practically a character-building surface, and you may end up turning over all night to avoid numbness or sores. The concrete base is also a shin hazard if you go exploring. The room is compact, with everything close together. There's one rusty hanger, and the 22” TV and furnishings look like an 8 year old put them together after watching a Bob the Builder episode. The no-shoes rule does encourage a sandy, earthy exfoliation routine. Breakfast is simple, with the boiled egg as the standout. This feels like a raw retreat for divers, somewhere nitrogen can build up and then be released. Comfort is optional, resilience is rewarded. 10/10.
