Angmoh Hostel

I’d never stayed in a hostel before, but I had such a good time here. The staff were lovely, friendly, and always willing to help, and the community atmosphere made the place feel special. The rules are simple: come and go whenever you like. I’ll definitely be back, and next time I’ll remember to take photos. See you then! Xx

The bedbugs made this the worst hostel I’ve stayed in during four months of budget travel. I saw them crawling on the wall and crushed two, leaving blood spots among the marks already there. The room was very hot and smelled awful, and with 25 people, there was talking and packing through the night. The mattress was only about 5 cm thick, hard and uncomfortable, and wrapped in plastic that made every movement noisy. This place is horrible. You can find a hostel for the same price without bedbugs.

The hostel had only recently opened when I stayed in late January, and my first impression wasn’t great because the wall sockets weren’t working. Still, the staff understood the problem and kindly moved me to a twin bed when the other compartments were full. My travel buddy’s socket was out too, so he could sleep with me there. I also borrowed an extension socket, which made charging our devices much easier. Thanks so much to Nicole for all your help. I hope my feedback helps improve the hostel, and I’d consider staying again on a budget road trip.

Ang Moh was a great place to stay. It’s a good choice in Georgetown if you want to meet other backpackers and socialize without the wild party-hostel scene. The place is affordable and decent, with a very social feel, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t get bored here, and I’d come back if I’m in Malaysia again.
