The self-service washing machine gave me trouble, and I spent nearly two hours trying to sort it out. The service manager responded quickly and helped a lot, even arranging complimentary laundry to make up for it, which I appreciated. I was still a little disappointed because losing that time affected some of my plans for the day. Apart from this, my three-day, two-night stay was very pleasant. The room was comfortable with a beautiful view, and the facilities were generally excellent and well maintained. I hope management improves or upgrades the laundry facility for future guests.

We booked a two-bedroom suite, and the room was beautifully decorated, immaculate, and truly five-star. My three-star rating is about the breakfast service my family received on 25 February, not the room. The food was mediocre and generally quite salty, especially the stir-fried vegetables. When we asked for a sous vide egg, the staff looked blank, and I had to explain in both English and Bahasa Melayu. They did try to fulfill the request, and Denny was the only person who understood what I meant. The others’ reactions made it seem like an unusually complicated order. I’ve never had kitchen staff fail to understand a simple request for eggs, but I blame management for not training them in the basics. The worst part was what happened with the breakfast for four included in our booking. Only three of us ate that morning, so we wanted to take something for the fourth person. Siti said we could only take bread, because the hotel didn’t want to be responsible for food poisoning. That was strange, since I’ve stayed at Ascott before and had no problem taking food away in other countries, including Vietnam, but we accepted the rule. What I couldn’t accept was how she treated my mom when she asked for a takeaway container. Siti wouldn’t let her choose the bread herself and insisted on picking it. When my mom pointed out what we liked, Siti gave us only two pieces and filled the rest of the box with pastries we didn’t want, causing more food waste. She didn’t smile and treated us as if we were trying to steal bread or take too much. We only wanted to help a relative who couldn’t make it to breakfast, and we had paid for four portions, so that fourth portion was ours. Her behavior made it seem as if we were asking for something we had no right to, which was absurd for the price we paid. I hope the hotel trains staff better and treats guests with the respect they deserve. Please do better.

We spent three days and two nights here with our four kids. The view from the room was beautiful, looking out over Gurney Drive and the ANDAMAN by E&O, and the room itself had an excellent huge bathroom. Breakfast was very satisfying, with lots of appetizing options. The pool, gym, and kids’ playroom were excellent too. Parking in Penang can be a headache, so having parking with unlimited entry and exit was a real help. The bellman promptly unloaded our luggage when we arrived, and check-in was very fast. Self-check-in was convenient as well. For the price, it’s a very worthwhile choice. I think this hotel is the best. I was here as a tourist for one night. The sea-view room had everything I wanted, with lovely views of the ocean, park, hills, and sun. It’s a large hotel, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was great, with amenities provided, though the water pressure felt very strong. Staff were accommodating when I checked in earlier than planned. The location works well if you want the quieter side of Penang. One small downside: the shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner didn’t smell very nice, so you may want to bring your own.
