The receptionists are friendly, and the pool is clean and well maintained. The common areas, though, need more attention. The place looks modern and clean, but under the beds hasn’t been cleaned in years. Wi-Fi doesn’t reach the rooms.

The pool was great, and the location is strategic. If you want breakfast, Taman Tun Sardon is just a five minute drive away. The room was fairly clean, which mattered most to me, but the peeling wallpaper was an eyesore.

I may consider staying here again for the location, since there are plenty of tasty local places nearby, especially the nasi kandars. But I’ll have to seriously rethink where I stay around here. During my one night, the room felt much smaller than it looked online, and walking in gave me a congested feeling. There were several large and small ants around the basin and bed, and I was bitten a few times in bed. The air conditioner took a very long time to cool the room. Later, a cockroach appeared while I was on my laptop. I caught the bugs myself, but when I told the receptionist at checkout the next morning, he didn’t apologize or offer anything to make up for it.

The room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, which made us feel sick, and the tap water was brown, not fit for brushing our teeth or showering. We reported the water, but nobody acknowledged it or took action. Over four days, the room wasn’t made up at all; we had to keep asking reception, who said the cleaners were busy with rooms after checkout. The towels and sheets were worn and torn. Reception wouldn’t even let us register 15 minutes before 3pm, though we weren’t asking to check in early. The staff seemed to hate their jobs and showed it to guests. Management needs to wake up. Please stay elsewhere.

Parking was the biggest frustration. There’s no hotel parking, and the few public spots nearby are often full. The remaining options are roadside spaces, which aren’t convenient or guest friendly. Avatel is very well placed for getting to both Yorktown and Laplace. But the facilities are old, the walls are damaged, and the air conditioning units are heavily aged and visibly rusty, suggesting poor upkeep. The price isn’t cheap for the condition, though still somewhat acceptable. I wouldn’t choose it for a vacation, but it could work for a short stop if you don’t plan to spend much time in the hotel.
