Chulia Mansion

The central location made it easy to explore on foot. Chulia Night Market, Penang Road, Fujiyama Street Market, and the Peranakan Museum were all an easy walk away. Staff were welcoming and helpful throughout. We spent two nights, Dec 26-28, at Chulia Mansion Hotel in George Town. The room was clean and neat, with a cozy bed, working water heater, and air-conditioning that worked perfectly. We could see Love Lane from the window and even watched fireworks at night, a lovely bonus. It was a comfortable, convenient stay with great hospitality, and it’ll be our first choice if we return.

There’s free parking, and the staff were helpful. The location is right in the heart of Georgetown, close to bars if that’s your scene, and within walking distance of plenty of local food stalls and restaurants. I stayed three nights. The amenities could be better, since there’s no safe or fridge. The room is starting to show its age and had a musty smell.

Room 306, 27/12/25-31/12/25. There was dust under the bed and hair on the floor, so cleanliness needs work. The shower water didn’t drain properly, the curtain was torn, and the knob was so stiff it was hard for me as a senior to turn. There were no hand towels or tissue. The mug stirrers still had coffee stains at the ends, and the door’s safety lock was loose.

The location was good and the rooftop bar was nice, but the rest was disappointing. The room needed maintenance: electrical sockets were loose, the air-conditioning leaked, the corridors smelled of smoke, and nearby bars were noisy. Cleanliness was unacceptable. The bedsheets and towels were stained, and basic amenities were missing at check-in. Towels didn’t arrive until around 1 a.m., and when they did, they were still covered in hair. Customer service was awful. The receptionist blamed the laundry and said it wasn’t the hotel’s fault. I won’t return or recommend it.
