The Gallivant Hotel

The hotel handled a last-minute date change for me during the busy CNY holiday period, when I was struggling to get transport tickets. They waived the change fee, which was a real help, and I appreciated how understanding and flexible they were. I could walk to most of the places I wanted to see. Hin Bus Depot, The FOUNDERS Hutton, and the creative shops on Beach Street were all within about 1 km, so I didn’t need to worry about traffic or booking rides. My room was spotless, modern, and well maintained, and I thought the value for the price was unbeatable. The helpful team, walkable location, and cleanliness made my Penang trip memorable. I’d choose The Gallivant Hotel again next time.

The staff were polite and helpful, but I found the place overrated for the price. My room had very little natural light because it faced a shaded side, and it felt dark all day. There was also a persistent musty, smoky smell, probably from poor ventilation. The windows didn’t seem to be opened much, and the air-conditioning appeared to need filter maintenance. The high Google rating didn’t match my experience.

We had a really good stay. Room 304 was clean, had no smell, and was big enough for two. There was an open window in the bathroom, while the room’s window was just for the view. The location is a little outside the center, but we found some nice spots around the old bus depot. There’s a bike shop and a laundry basically next door.

The building is new and has a lift, and the location is right in the center. Our room was very clean and comfortable, with great water pressure. I’d stay here again.
