We ate at The Glasshouse Restaurant, the all-day dining spot, and the Michelin-Guide recommended Gēn Gen modern fine-dining restaurant. The restaurant’s gentle pastels, decent lighting and sturdy, comfortable furnishings fit the hotel’s elegant look. Food was laid out neatly and looked appealing. Staff were proactive and helpful, knew the menu well and made recommendations. Plates were cleared quickly, and tables were cleaned fast for the next guests. The food included American, British, Malaysian, Indian and Chinese dishes, prepared fresh in daily batches. Empty buffet trays were replenished quickly, and the quality was above average. Breakfast at The Glasshouse Restaurant costs MYR RM40 per person. The hotel blends colonial heritage with contemporary design, with views over the Strait Of Malacca between Penang Island and the Malaysian mainland. Its Victorian-era facade contrasts with modernist corridors, angular lines and warm, low lighting. The monochrome palette gets some lift from soft pastels, brass and gold details, and thoughtfully placed greenery. Mirrors and lighting keep the interiors bright without being harsh. Staff were warm without being intrusive. They offered help with doors and luggage, greeted guests warmly, and seemed attentive to small details. Housekeeping was efficient and observant, and the reception and restaurant teams were ready with recommendations. They seemed proud of their work. The rooftop infinity pool was beautiful, with expansive views, and the nearby gazebo offered welcome shade. The gym was well equipped but small. Wi-Fi was fast and stable throughout, and the shopping arcade was interesting. I didn’t get to try Whispering Wellness spa because it was closed over Chinese New Year / Lunar New Year 2026. My room was a comfortable, cool retreat, with good air conditioning and greenery-patterned wallpaper. The bathroom and toilet were great. The large bed was comfortable and gave good back and neck support. I also liked the dining and work desk. The complimentary minibar was restocked daily.

The room was bright and clean, with decent space for two adults and two medium-sized suitcases. I didn’t hear much from the neighbors at night, just the occasional door closing. The corridor was rather dim, though that’s a personal preference. There are four storeys, with a 24-hour gym and swimming pool on level 4. The gym is small and mostly has cardio machines. Staff were great from arrival to departure, helping with car and hotel doors, taking luggage to the room and greeting us with smiles. They even helped find the right private hire car. We were lucky to get an early check-in at 10:30am and check out at 2pm at no extra cost. We visited during the first week of March 2026, which overlapped with the last few days of Lunar New Year. Celebrations carried on through the evening, and I caught nearby fireworks from our room. I’d highly recommend this hotel.

The location made it easy to get around, with Armenian Street and well-known nasi kandar places a short distance away. Breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully put together, with dishes you could order at the table. The restaurant staff were attentive and professional. Mr. Zain and the Front Desk staff were especially helpful in arranging our transport. We stayed one night in two connecting rooms and had a thoroughly enjoyable time at The Prestige Hotel Penang. The rooms had an elegant design and luxurious finish, with high-quality linens and towels. Spa-grade toiletries, complimentary Nespresso capsules and TWG tea, plus the minibar, were nice touches. Stylish, comfortable and memorable, with outstanding service. Highly recommended for a Penang visit.

We stayed for three nights and kept a zipped bag in our room the whole time. It contained some cards and a $100 note. At checkout we found the bill was missing. Only hotel staff servicing the room had access to the bag, though we may have been careless to leave cash there. At a five-star hotel, guests should be able to reasonably expect their belongings to be safe. We reported it right away and were told there’d be an investigation. Later, the hotel said it was “concluded” and wouldn’t take the matter further. They gave no explanation, accountability or resolution. For a hotel of this supposed standard, that response was extremely disappointing. Future guests should lock valuables in the safe rather than assume things left in the room are secure.

The location is convenient, close to a hawker centre and shops, including a bubble tea shop. The rooms are well insulated, so it’s quiet, and we’d definitely stay here again. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and spacious, with a roomy shower and great water pressure. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet.
