Yan Hotel

I brought my family for two nights. We didn’t have a family room on the first day, so I booked two single beds, but got a family room the next day. It was really spacious, with two queen size beds, and very clean. There was an iron, kettle, bottled minerals, coffee satchets, tea satchets, and liquid bath soap. The hair dryer has to be requested from the operator desk on the 1st floor. Staff were friendly.

It’s convenient for food, convenience stores, and a pharmacy, all within walking distance. The room cleanliness needs more attention, though, as ants were everywhere. I’d booked a room with a balcony, but the wall showed discoloration and mold. That room shouldn’t have been released for booking in the first place. Mold is especially bad for a person’s health. Would I return? Yes, but I hope things improve while they’re doing renovations.

The room was great for the price, and mine had a fantastic view of the Komtar building, the tallest building on Penang Island. Night market food is just around the corner too. It was all okay!

The location is good, but the hotel and staff were bad. One Chinese male staff member, quite big, was very rude and sleeping at the desk. He couldn’t speak proper English but was arrogant. I was on the 3rd floor, where it was very noisy, and the room was dusty with paint falling off the wall. When I went down for a smoke, I saw a few women bringing men up to their rooms, and one staff member was involved. I wondered what was going on. There were two girls there who weren’t bad, but the Chinese people weren’t helpful at all.
