The rooms were well soundproofed, the AC worked great, and the blackout blinds helped. There weren't any water bottles, but they provided a jug in the room and had a water refill station. The hotel is centrally placed near markets, malls, attractions and bus stations. At check-in, the receptionist tried to charge me both taxes, though I only owed the tourist tax. She didn't believe me and demanded proof, even though I thought that should show in their system. I paid by credit card, but they didn't give my card back. That felt very sketchy. It was our only issue.

Kimberley Hotel is a handy base for exploring Georgetown, especially if local food is high on your list. Kimberley Street's lively night food market is just outside, with two Michelin-recommended stalls around the corner. Komtar bus terminal is on the other side, with very cheap buses to nearly anywhere in Penang. Armenian Street and the UNESCO heritage area are about a ten-minute walk away. You're close to the old town, but far enough from the usual tourist traps and crowds, with local shops and good prices nearby. The hotel itself is a clean, functional 3-star place, comfortable enough for a city break. Nothing luxurious, but it delivers what you'd expect from its category. If you want to explore Georgetown like a local and have good connections and food close by, it's a smart choice.

My room was quiet, and I slept really well. The reception is beautiful, and the hotel manager was friendly and nice. The breakfast was tasty and served in a lovely place. It was a budget spread with omelette, baked beans, spring rolls, pasta, rice and the usual Malaysian sauces and add-ons, plus salad, cherry tomatoes and fruit. Bread was basic, with butter and jam, and you could toast it. Coffee and tea came in pots. I've had more choices at other hotels, but that's no problem in Georgetown, where food is everywhere. The rooms are on the small side and there's no fridge, but there was a kettle and cups. A drinking water dispenser is by the elevator. The AC and TV worked fine, soap was in a dispenser near the shower, and free coffee and tea were available.

The room was clean and the staff were very friendly. Winnie was especially helpful when my partner left his Raybans behind. I messaged to ask if they'd been found, and they had. Winnie went out of the way to send them to our next location. We're so grateful, what a wonderful soul. Thank you!
