The cool weather and scenery around Genting are lovely, but I’ve come across a number of owners and sub-owners in the area renting places as hotels or homestays without keeping them properly clean or supplying basic necessities. Some still charge regular hotel prices, or even much more. I saw this at Genting View Resorts, including Ramin, Permai and Kempas. In some places, towels meant for guests are used to clean toilet floors and bowls, then hung near the stairs or car park to dry for the next guest. I’ve also seen old discarded mattresses reused in homestays, and bedbugs are a common problem in these places. If you’re visiting Genting, I’d suggest booking a proper hotel. There are several around Genting Permai near the Petron and Starbucks, along Goh Tong Jaya, and all the way up to Genting Highland. If everything’s booked during peak season, you could stop at an open car park at Genting Premium Outlets or up at Genting and enjoy the cool breeze and scenery for free. If you sleep or camp in your car, remember to leave the windows slightly open. It can get very, very cold at night and into the early morning.
