Abby Hotel By The River Town

We stayed three nights in a superior room, and it was easy to walk out for dinner each evening with plenty of choices nearby. The room was spacious, with a big bed and good natural light from the large second-floor windows. The filtered water tap was a great touch and meant we didn't need bottles. Staff were also very helpful with ideas for things to see and do in town.

The price felt very high compared with other places in Malaysia offering similar services and amenities. Still, the location was convenient between the old town and the night market, and our double room was roomy and clean, with windows. We also appreciated the filtered water in the corridor.

I love this hostel's location, close to lots of places to eat, and it's my favourite in Ipoh. It's clean, and they let you bring a bicycle. We kept ours in the ground-floor garage. The staff are usually helpful.

Getting around was easy because the location is great and everything is accessible. For the price, it wasn't bad, especially since Ipoh isn't a heavily touristed place. The room was okay, though a bit old, and the AC blocked part of the window curtain, which could leave you feeling short on privacy. This feels more like a hostel with some private rooms than a hotel. They offer paid luggage storage, which I don't mind in general, but when a guest can't check in, they should be able to leave their bags for a few hours without paying. Instead, we had to leave our luggage out in the open. They said it was safe and monitored by CCTV, but I would've felt better with it stored inside.
