Anderson Hotel

The rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable, and had a good bathroom. The managers and staff were extremely friendly and clearly cared about guests. When the power went out, they quickly gave us a key to a room in another wing so we could use the air conditioning. Each morning the manager left a large bottle of water outside our door. The old town location is ideal, close to sights, restaurants, bars, malls, the railway station, and the colonial administration buildings with the clock tower. The famous Andersonian Club, known for its delicious Indian food, is nearby, as is a park with beautiful Japanese gardens.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. I paid RM80 per night for a queen bed with windows and stayed two nights. It’s a walk-up hotel with no lift, so it isn’t suitable for seniors or OKUs. The front desk managers weren’t always at the counter, and we had to call them over. Guests get a passcard for the building and their room; a Bangladeshi man handles housekeeping. Food is easy to find nearby, including Malay, mamak, and Chinese restaurants. Majeedia, the legendary nasi kandar place, is close, and Gerbang Malam night market is a five-minute walk away. For a budget hotel, it was okay. Hope this helps future guests.

There’s plenty of space, it’s fairly clean, and the traditional design has nice curtains. The air conditioning was okay, the smart TV was there, and the room had a kettle, cups, spoons, and an iron area. Service was good, the boss gave us a free parking ticket, the surroundings were quiet, and entry with the card was easy. The downsides: the counter is messy and old, the design is inconsistent, and there was one cockroach. The bed felt old and stiff, though okay. The TV was a bit hard to use, and the toilet is old but acceptable. The window can’t be opened, there’s no water filter, and you need a parking coupon or risk a summons.

The entrance doesn’t look like much, but the rooms make up for it and are quite spacious. It was better than I expected and worth the money. Lots of places are close by, with a dim sum street nearby if that’s your thing, and some good party spots too.
