K Garden Hotel Ipoh

Really nice hotel, comfortable and very clean.

The WiFi was the one real letdown. Even ordinary websites and social media took hours to load, so I ended up using my own 4G. I don’t need a superfast connection for downloading programs, but that was too slow. Otherwise, the facilities were clean and worked properly. I was pleasantly surprised by the standards at this 2-3 star hotel in Ipoh, which could easily beat many well known 5 star hotels in KL. The air conditioning, water heater, TV, iron and board, and safe all worked. I’m not sure, but maybe it’s a new hotel, since new places often have standards like this. It’s just after the NS highway exit, yet quiet enough despite the traffic.

On 8 January 2025 I was booked into room 104 after my usual VIP room, 103, was unavailable. I had checked by phone beforehand, as I do on every stay, that the room would be clean and that the VIP room jacuzzi would be checked. When I arrived around 3:40 pm, the dressing area light wasn’t working. I asked for it to be fixed, but Fazlan, who called himself the manager, said it couldn’t be changed. Then I found the pillowcase dirty and smelly. I took it to the counter and asked the receptionist to check and replace it. Fazlan argued with me rudely and shouted in a very loud voice. When I said this wasn’t the service guests should receive, he immediately shouted at the Indian receptionist and told her to cancel my booking, even though I’d paid for two nights. I’ve stayed here many times before and have found him unhelpful and unfriendly on previous visits too. This was a very bad experience, the worst staff behavior I’ve seen. I hope hotel management takes this seriously.

Getting around is difficult on foot. The hotel is far from popular sights and restaurants, close to the motorways, so you’ll need to drive or use Grab. It no longer offers breakfast. The rooms feel like a Western standard hotel, with good sized doubles, including on the ground floor. The bed was very comfortable, the light controls were great, and there were USB and UK plugs. The bathroom was beautiful, with a shower and big mirror. Everything was clean and easy to access, with step free access. It was quiet even near reception. Watch out, the shower gets extremely hot. Reception is staffed 24/7. The Indian man at reception was friendly, while the Indian woman was unhelpful. The secondary door by the ramp is kept shut, so wheelchair users can’t leave the hotel in an emergency. A motorbike was parked on the ramp too, which felt very unsafe and showed little respect for disabled people.
