Hotel Holmes GP

The room was spacious, but there weren’t enough amenities, and this doesn’t feel like a four-star hotel to me. It should be two stars. They never updated the listing on Agoda. The hotel looks old, like an OYO budget hotel. The toilet was clean, but there was no shower gel, and the ceiling had a large mould stain. Breakfast was very poor. The nasi lemak rice was completely gone by 8:50am, and they said there was no more rice. The other food had run out too, and staff made no effort to refill it. Some dishes were tasteless. I won’t stay here again.

The hotel is clean overall, and our Deluxe King room was clean and spacious. A few things need attention before we visit again. The safe was locked, so we couldn’t use it. The air conditioning was set to 18 degrees, but the room stayed at 23.5 to 24 degrees. It was a hot night on 17/7/25. There was no hand soap in the bathroom, so we had to use the body soap. At checkout, reception said there should have been hand soap and hand towels. The bathroom only had basic amenities: bath towels, hair shampoo, and body shampoo. The TV also needed to be set up every time we turned it on. The hotel technician had assured us during the initial setup that it wouldn’t need to be done again. After dinner, we had to repeat the setup, and reception didn’t answer despite our calling for 10 minutes. Hopefully management can fix these issues.

I don’t understand the high ratings this hotel gets on Booking.com, Agoda.com, or Google.com. Are staff writing the reviews themselves? Our stay was meant to be several days, and I’d booked a non-smoking room, but the whole hotel smelled of smoke. The first room was near the smoking area, so the smell inside was especially strong. When we explained to staff that we couldn’t stay, one kindly offered two alternatives. One had the same layout as the room we’d booked, which is only available in a corner near the smoking area on each floor. The other was in the middle of the corridor, but the whole place still smelled of cigarettes and didn’t seem well maintained or clean. The air conditioning was very old, and the same stale air seemed to circulate through all the rooms, wherever they were. Every floor had the same problem. There was mould on the ceilings and walls, which also made the place seem unsanitary. Renovations were underway, with materials left everywhere, even in the construction area. We found another hotel, but neither Agoda nor the hotel would refund us. We wouldn’t have booked this place if we hadn’t thought the ratings were completely made up.

I stayed one night in mid July. The room and bathroom seemed clean, and everything else went smoothly. When I went to make noodles at night, though, I found someone’s leftover noodles still in the kettle, probably from the previous guest. It may have been a cleaning oversight, but room service brought me a replacement when I called.
