Homestay Kampong Pak Ali

The lawn and traditional-style living area are nice for family games and photos, and there's plenty of room for a large group. But for family days or events, I wouldn't choose this place. The restaurant by the pool means guests can't use that area for events, even when the whole venue is booked. Restaurant customers also pass by the rooms, so there's no privacy, and the pool closes early for restaurant use. Cooking and outside catering aren't allowed, so you're limited to food from management. Even ordering from them costs at least RM35 per person per meal, and the food we received was poor: slimy fried rice, smelly, tasteless “grilled” fish, cold “grilled” chicken, instant mashed potato, and cheap sausage. For that price, you could get a great all-you-can-eat buffet. We ordered for about 90 people but received at most enough for 45. Water was shut off after 6 pm. They gave odd explanations, including that we used too much for showers or cooked illegally in the dining hall, when all we'd done was warm leftover food. They also blamed someone leaving a tap on. We checked, and that hadn't happened, but they said one room forgetting the tap would mean the whole homestay had no water. I've never had this happen anywhere I've stayed while travelling. We paid for the whole place, not just one or two rooms. If high water bills are a problem for a hospitality business, they shouldn't run one. It's a nice spot for Instagram photos, but a definite no for events and family days. Most of the other reviews seem to be for the restaurant by the pool, not the homestay itself.
