Avantgarde Hotel

I was glad to leave in the morning and have no plans to return. The sheets had yellowish stains, the toilet bowl leaked constantly, and the Wi-Fi kept cutting out. When it worked, it was slow. The price also felt high for this location: I paid $130 while Agoda charged $104. A dreadful hotel, and the photos and reviews tell the story.

Whenever I plan a visit to the Skudai area, I tend to stay here. Sutera Mall is about a five-minute walk away, with lots of food choices, bubble tea shops, and a nice salon next door. The rooms are clean, and the front desk staff are friendly and quick to respond.

The location is hard to beat, about a three-minute walk from Sutera mall, with plenty of shops and cafes and restaurants that stay open past midnight. The lift is useful for older guests and wheelchair users. I stayed in a Grand Suite. Check-in was easy, and the room was spacious, with one double bed and two single beds. The air conditioner got cold and blew strongly once I selected the right mode. There was a shower and a jacuzzi bathtub, though I didn’t try the tub. The room looked out onto the open car park. Cleanliness and comfort were quite good for a three-star hotel. I’d recommend it for a stay in the Sutera area.

There’s a pub beside the hotel, and the music and singing made the whole room shake until after 1 a.m. I couldn’t sleep at night.
