The strongest part of my four-plus years here was the people. Neighbors looked out for each other, and residents even came together to clean and improve the area. There's a Telegram group of around a thousand residents, self-managed by residents. At the ground entrance beside Block B, the cheerful grocery shopkeeper adds to the welcoming feel. That camaraderie made simple living genuinely gratifying for me. The apartment is on the outskirts of Johor town and has five blocks, including one 20-floor block, so it can feel dense and crowded. It's within walking distance of the local Lotus supermarket, formerly TESCO. The place used to be affected by neglect and vandalism; there were also some motorbike thefts, and the garden and common areas went unattended for a while. Over the past year, residents have helped make the surroundings clean, cared for, and charming. Facilities are basic and repairs and maintenance are still badly needed, but the residents' warmth and genuine care made it feel like home to me.
The noise starts around 5:45 am and goes until 7, every day of the week, then returns from 6:45 pm to 9 pm. People use very loud, high-pitched speakers and shout; it only gets quiet after 9. I bought an apartment here recently and regret it. The sound from nearby makes it impossible to study or read peacefully at night, and some of us need to sleep early to go to SG. Even children can't study. It would be considerate to keep the volume down, but sadly I don't think that will happen. Think twice before buying.
The pool area is large, and there's a cafe. But the place feels isolated at the end of the road, the buildings look old despite being fairly new, and maintenance isn't good. The lift is small, and the unit smells.
There are many car thieves and no CCTV in the parking area. Outside noise and noisy, rude neighbors make a lot of racket at midnight, so people can't sleep. There's also heavy air pollution from uncontrolled open burning, lung cancer.
After a long day at work, there isn't peace because of sound from the nearby surau. Please don't buy or rent here. Speakers should only be used during the azan. I hope management or some Malay residents here can ease our plight.
