Prince33 Hotel

The water heater and shower pressure both worked well, and the staff were friendly, though there was only one person at the front desk. Those were the bright spots in an otherwise frustrating stay. Noise was the biggest problem. I could hear KTV singing, traffic, and even conversations next door because the room had no real soundproofing. During the night, people dragged their feet, slammed doors, and spoke loudly, waking me several times. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re a light sleeper or need a quiet rest. The room smelled musty as soon as I walked in. The furniture looked worn and poorly maintained, and there was a half-used shampoo bottle in the toilet, apparently left by the previous guest. Housekeeping hadn’t removed it. The place is in Mount Austin, which is a strategic spot, but the hotel felt run-down and fell short of basic hospitality standards. I’m surprised it’s still operating in that condition. I won’t be back and wouldn’t suggest it to anyone wanting a comfortable stay.

For our one-night stop, the hotel met our needs and the room was clean and comfortable. We’d read mixed comments about cleanliness and reception service, but didn’t encounter either problem ourselves. It’s a 3-star place, so the basics were enough for us. We were road-tripping from Thailand to Singapore with Kitty and two riding buddies, and stopped in Johor Bahru to wash our bikes. Kitty picked Prince 33 Hotel in Mount Austin because she could get her eyelashes and nails done nearby. The location worked well for us: restaurants and shops were easy to reach on foot, and both the old and new Mount Austin areas were about 5 to 10 minutes away. Our rooms were spacious for basic rooms, and the bathroom was roomy too. We wished there were more clothes hangers. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and hair dryers weren’t provided, though luckily we had brought our own. It’d be helpful if the hotel supplied at least those basics. We could hear hallway conversations and alarm clocks from rooms above and beside us, so the soundproofing wasn’t very good. Connecting rooms are available, which could suit friends traveling together. Finding our way around was confusing and felt maze-like: check-in was on the first floor, while our rooms were on the second and third.

We paid a fair room rate for a place that was above average, and the location was good. Music from the area went on late and made things noisy. I was tired, so it didn’t bother me, but light sleepers might not be comfortable here.

The staff were welcoming, and the room felt clean and comfortable overall. There were some permanent marks on the toilet seat. The hotel seems to have been renovated recently. Just outside, a loklok stall serves decent food, and the stall next door was a surprisingly good breakfast stop in the morning.
