The Grand Jade Hotel

Vivi at reception was awesome and very helpful, and the room itself was great. The location is great too. The lift might be worth fixing, as I can see it being a hassle for people with heavy luggage, though it wasn't much of a problem for me. The wifi bandwidth could also be increased.

The location is good, but the lack of maintenance made the hotel a real disappointment. The room was dusty and dirty, and so were the sheets. There was even a plaster bagworm pupa on the bed, which housekeeping hadn't noticed, making it seem like the room hadn't been used in a long time. I'm allergic to dust, and my body felt itchy after sleeping there. The toilet lights were faulty, and road traffic engines were noisy all night. The phone didn't work, there was no toothbrush set or toilet paper, and the lift was faulty, so we had to use the stairs. The staircase lights were faulty too. It looked like a haunted hotel. The aircon and water heater were the only things working. Such a pity, given the location. Book at your own risk.

The price is reasonable, the service is good, and the JB checkpoint is close enough to walk to easily. But it's really noisy at night, especially the motorbikes. There were no flip flops, bathroom mat, or hair dryer. We had to wait about 10 minutes for hot water. We also had a small issue with the key card at first and needed a physical key to get the door open.

The street noise made it hard to rest. The hotel sits at a junction of two major roads and has no sound insulation. Motorcyclists revving tuned engines and heavy vehicles leaning on their horns kept the racket going well past midnight. I used noise canceling earphones, but when their batteries died, I couldn't sleep properly. Even if the noise isn't the hotel's fault, it made the stay poor. I wouldn't recommend it. The hotel also follows Islamic guidelines: unmarried couples have to use separate rooms and alcohol isn't permitted. This is posted at reception but not on the booking sites. As a solo traveler who doesn't drink, it was fine for me, but other travelers could be caught off guard if they book without knowing.
