M Boutique Kampar

I stayed here eight years ago and gave it five stars, so I came back hoping for that nostalgic feeling. A few days ago I also booked their sister property, M Boutique Ipoh, and the difference was hard to miss. Maybe it's the age of the buildings, or maybe one is simply maintained better. I still find this branch more comfortable than other hotels in Kampar, and it has a proper lift, plush bedding, and a nicely designed toilet. But comparing it with the M boutique brand, this visit disappointed me. I hope management does a proper audit and improves the SOPs to keep standards consistent if they expand to other towns. There were basic upkeep problems: a cockroach was roaming on the poorly cleaned sofa, the phone seemed to be just for show with a broken line, and the water boiler was broken when I needed hot water for baby milk. The toilet corner hadn't been cleaned properly, with yellowish black areas seemingly hidden by black silicone. The design collects dust, so the black metal paint needs regular maintenance. Staff at this outlet didn't seem professional, and new people were being trained right in front of us. I think they should put money into restoring worn items and reconsidering poor design choices. The solid wooden lobby floor keeps shifting under rolling luggage, which feels flimsy, and the renovation choices look cheap.
