The service and price made this a decent choice for me. I arrived as a walk-in at 1 AM, and there was still a bellboy around to take our luggage up to the room. The place is visibly old, both in the rooms and around the property, and I noticed a few small cleanliness issues. If you need a modern or spotless room, you may want somewhere else. I stayed two nights and still felt it was good value.

The river view from our spacious room was great, and the staff were friendly. It’s an older-style hotel, but it’s kept up well and has a big lobby. Breakfast was good, though the coffee and tea came premixed with far too much sugar. There wasn’t an unsweetened option unless you asked or mentioned it at reception. Otherwise, a good stay.

Breakfast had plenty of tasty choices, and everything was halal. I stayed a few nights and didn’t run into any problems. The hotel was clean, beautiful, and well cared for, and check-in was easy and smooth. I’d happily come back.

The carpet and sofa could use some refurbishing, but the room was comfortable and nicely furnished. We especially loved the riverfront setting at Grand Riverview Hotel, with the wide river and sunset view right from the hotel. Breakfast had a good spread, and the staff there warmly answered our questions about where to go. The concierge also suggested helpful places to visit around Kota Bharu, which added to our trip. We had a cozy, pleasant stay.

Breakfast at Chao Yuan was good, but later we lost two new umbrellas. We’d set ours apart from the others, yet someone seems to think hotel things are freebies. They could use a cheap tagging system, maybe cable ties and notes.
