Ang's Hotel

Ang's Hotel is better known for Kedai Kopi Fatt Kee on the ground floor than for the rooms upstairs. The boss is patient, and somehow manages several things at once while you try to get your order out from that elaborate menu. The kitchen runs smoothly, with each staff team seeming to know what to do without needing to talk. The food sticks to traditional Chinese flavours and methods. Get a plate of chicken wings for the table.

There were six of us, and each wanted a separate dish with rice, but many menu items are sized for more than two people. When we asked which dishes came in a single serving with rice, one of the women with blonde/gold dyed hair just said, “No! All are for big size portion. You choose again, will let you know if it’s available.” She didn’t explain or suggest what we could order, so we ended up choosing dishes at random from what was available. The customer service at the restaurant was unpleasant. They should make some changes and improve it.

If you’re in Kota Kinabalu, come here for dinner. This Chinese restaurant is right in the heart of the city, and it’s a real gem, with great food at reasonable prices. The Assam curry fish head, pork leg, and honey chicken wings are all worth trying.

The Chinese Restaurant downstairs from Ang's Hotel has kept the same delicious taste through all these decades. Service at the table and customer management have improved, and I’d recommend everything on the menu. 👍
