I’ve never had a worse hotel stay. There’s no parking for guests, so I had to pay RM12 to park. The first room they gave me, 317, had sticky brown stains on the desk and bedside table. At first the receptionist said housekeeping had probably missed cleaning and leaving toothbrushes, then told me I’d have to buy a toothbrush for RM12. No one answers the phone, and WhatsApp replies took at least 20 minutes. I asked for a refund, and only then did he check another room, 215. That room also had no toothbrushes and smelled like someone had pooped between the beds. I had no choice but to stay because my home had no water. In the morning, a different receptionist claimed the brown marks in the first room were paint, then also said housekeeping must have missed them. Paint wouldn’t be sticky like that. The whole experience was awful.

The location was stunning, and the staff were especially kind and polite. Mir and Fon made our stay more pleasant. Our room had no windows; some other rooms do, but those windows are fixed and can’t be opened. There was no natural sunlight or proper airflow.

The hotel is old, though my stay was okay. Being right beside 1Borneo shopping mall is a big plus. I wasn’t keen on the rule against bringing in outside food. I could understand restricting local fruits like durian, mangosteen, or cempedak, but apparently I’ll have to get food from the hotel restaurant instead.

Parking is first come, first served, and I wish that had been made clear beforehand. I was also surprised to have to leave a cash deposit at check-in, since cashless payment options would be more convenient. The stay itself was pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable, the air conditioning was just right, and housekeeping had everything spotless and ready.
