Faloe Hostel

The staff were friendly, especially Lia, and I really liked the small touches, like the little stool outside the entrance for putting on sports shoes. I'll come back. Thank you so much, Faloe. There's a simple breakfast of cereal and bread, and the public area has books and Netflix. Wifi is good. A washer and dryer are available for the same fees as outside laundry. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of hooks for clothes, with shower gel and shampoo provided. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and I was surprised by how huge and deep the locker space was. They provided two kinds of pillows and a towel. The location is great, behind Imago shopping mall, with lots of food options around and a few convenience shops nearby, including 7 eleven and orange.

I spent eight nights at Faloe while exploring Kota Kinabalu and taking day trips around the region. Out of 12 hostels on my 80 days in east and west Malaysia, this was my favourite. It felt peaceful, clean, cosy, and comfortable, in a clean and safe upmarket area. The staff were kind and understanding, and the amenities were well chosen and looked after. The kitchenette by reception was handy for small meals, with a microwave and induction stove. My bunk's mattress and pillow were super comfy, and the linen was top notch. I could air dry small handwashed clothes on the enclosed balcony. The shower and toilet combo was one of several outside the rooms, always clean, and I never had to wait. A washer and dryer cost MR6 each per load. The building is right below KK International Airport's incoming flight path, with aircraft passing less than 100m above, but the sound insulation meant they never disturbed my sleep. Lia and Sya were amazing, always smiling, super friendly, and with a great sense of humour. I'll definitely stay at Faloe again when I return to KK.

Through our tour around Sabah, we've stayed in Airbnb's and hotels, and Faloe was hands down the cleanest place. The toilets are shared, so I expected less, but they were the cleanest and best maintained. The staff were lovely, friendly, and always smiling. A fantastic standard, and a recommended place to stay in Kota Kinabalu.

A gem in Kota Kinabalu. The rooms are very clean and don't feel moldy or stuffy, and there's a kitchen, a laundry machine, and a simple breakfast for free. There's also a vegan/veggie buffet sort of nearby at Usagi.
