Hotel Sutera Inanam by Oyo

I only needed somewhere to sleep after arriving in Kota Kinabalu at 3 a.m., but I couldn't check in. I went two nights ago and the place was closed. Their listing gave no latest check-in time, and they hadn't told me my arrival time wouldn't work. I messaged them about when I'd arrive and got no reply. It was scary to be alone in a new country for a moment, though luckily there was a 24-hour hotel next store. False advertising, and a very disappointing experience.

I paid for a room through Agoda apps last night, then went straight to the hotel. The door was shut, with a sign saying the rooms were full. Nobody answered when I rang the bell, and the owner didn't respond to my call either. Imagine paying and showing up only to be left outside with nowhere to go. We had to find another hotel. Very bad service, not recommended.

We booked a queen bed with air conditioning. The old paint didn't bother me and the basics seemed to be there, but once we lay down I noticed how badly the floor's lapis getah was installed, just folded and laid there with no effort to make it presentable. The door's safety lock was missing, which made it hard to feel safe. Then I picked up the blanket because I was cold and found two period stains that looked a few days old. From personal experience, I'd expect stains to be removed if anyone had tried. I got goose bumps wondering whether the blanket and sheets had been changed at all, or how many people had slept there before us. With the pandemic around, where's the hygiene? A big no. We checked out, and I told reception to change the sheet before giving the room to another guest, so they'd know how things work.

I wouldn't give this place a star, but the form wouldn't let me submit without one, so I reluctantly gave it the undeserved single star. As soon as I checked in, I checked out again. The room smelled, the air conditioner didn't work and was very noisy, and we could hear people in other rooms. Parking also costs extra. Never staying here again.
