Seaview Capsule Hotel

We arrived at 2am and were told the double capsule we'd requested wasn't available. They offered two single capsules instead, and since it was so late, we agreed as long as they were in the same room. We'd messaged about the room on booking.com before our stay. Check-in then took a full 45 minutes. We were 15 ringitt short of the 50 Malaysian ringitt deposit, so we had to go to an ATM right then. We'd offered to pay first thing in the morning and leave our ID until then, but they wouldn't accept that. We understand it's their policy, but other travellers should know the deposit is required immediately. After another 10 minutes, the receptionist found a single bed for us, but there were no beds together in the same room. They opened a capsule above us, only to find someone sleeping in it. We'd already paid, and it was past three. My friend was told to sleep in a capsule outside the kitchen while I stayed in one inside the room. We weren't comfortable being split up, and that wasn't what we'd agreed to. The one by the kitchen would also be noisy when everyone woke up, and it hadn't even been made up. In the end, we slept in the same single capsule. The next morning, we asked for a refund for our second night, which we no longer wanted to stay, because the agreed sleeping arrangement hadn't been provided. After they talked among themselves, they refused, saying they'd already made up a double bed for us, which was now available. The night before, we'd been told we'd have single beds for the whole stay. Then they asked us to wait while they prepared the double bed. It took another 40 minutes before we could use it, so it felt like they'd lied when they said it was ready. The lockers were full too, though that was eventually sorted out. The night before, we'd had to leave our things on the floor. Our locker keys also opened each other's lockers, so I wouldn't leave valuables there. Later, the receptionist asked for my full card number. She already had the last four digits on the receipt from our card payment and wanted me to write in the rest for "the report." I wasn't comfortable sharing those details, and they didn't explain why they needed them. Then they made fun of us in Malay right in front of us. We could make out English-sounding words like receipt, bank, and card. On top of all that, the single bed was one of the hardest and most uncomfortable we've slept on, despite having stayed in many budget hostels. This was also one of the most expensive hostels we'd stayed in. We've been travelling for 8 months and have had good things to say about almost everywhere. We're budget travellers and tried to be kind and polite throughout this situation. This is my first bad review, and I feel bad writing it, but I'm really upset about how we were treated. We were lied to, made uncomfortable, and refused a refund after the promised room arrangement changed once they'd taken payment. I was also asked for confidential card details and laughed at when I refused. I want to warn other travellers, and I hope they do better.
