Geopark Hotel Kuah Langkawi

I couldn’t make myself stay and had to check out on my own. The water heater didn’t work, and the air conditioner was noisy. I also felt unsafe staying there alone: anyone could get to the rooms from outside, there was no CCTV or access card, just keys. The room was small, and the building is shops rather than a hotel. The photos on booking.com looked nice, which made the actual place disappointing. This felt more like a motel than a hotel.

The noise was a problem too, before 1am and again after 6am. Around 7am you could hear the shop downstairs opening its gate, from 7am to 8am. The room looked very old, even though reception gave the impression of a nice hotel, and the elevator made the contrast feel odd. The double bed was small, my partner’s legs didn’t fit properly, and it was uncomfortable even for me at 160cm. There was no bottled water or hanger, and the bathroom door was broken. With a budget, maybe you could manage one night, but I wouldn’t stay longer or come back.

There isn’t much else nearby, though the beach is close and serves as the drop-off and pick-up spot for island hopping. Pantai Cenang is about a 30-minute drive, and Dataran Lang around 15 minutes away. A night market, 7e, a bakery and Chinese restaurants are a few minutes on foot, with gift shops and restaurants or stalls downstairs. The hotel is average, but clean, with a bright room and clean toilet. The staff were really friendly. Ask the receptionist each day if you want the room cleaned. There’s a water dispenser near the room, but the Wi-Fi was weak and there’s no breakfast option.

There’s plenty of public parking, and a Coway water filter by the lift. The place is next to the jetty and near a mosque. The people there were warm and friendly. The air conditioner took too long to cool the room, and the lighting could be better.
