Amigo Hotel

I waited in the lobby downstairs for more than 23 minutes without a response from the front desk girl. She kept saying she was checking.

This warning is only about the dormitories. Don’t book a dormitory at Amigo Hotel. They’re on the hotel roof, where the floor isn’t properly paved and laundry hangs alongside water tanks and air-conditioning outlets, though the views are great. I asked for a lower deck before check-in and got no reply. The room was in terrible shape: missing window panes, stuffy air conditioning, little space, and very low clearance on the upper deck. The toilet and shower areas looked dirty and awful. There’s just one toilet and a separate shower for 12 beds. It may be one of the cheapest options in town, but it was so bad that I walked to another hostel down the street and stayed there instead. The regular hotel rooms looked pretty decent, so paying a little more for one may be better. I’m not exaggerating about the dorms. Read the reviews before booking.

We booked for three people and had a queen bed and a single, plus a fairly large bathroom. The room was clean and quite spacious. There’s an elevator, but you have to use stairs to get from road level up to the reception lobby, so be ready for that if you have big luggage. They also require a deposit and charge for an extra room card. The shopping street outside gets crowded at night, but there’s street food and shopping. Remember to bargain.

Some staff were very nice, but others were intrusive and made us uncomfortable. After reading such good reviews and high ratings, the stay was very disappointing. Even though we’d booked an upgraded room, it was small, dark, and poorly maintained, and the price didn’t match what we got. The shower was great and the bathroom looked modern, but there’s no separation between the shower and toilet, so the whole bathroom gets flooded. There were no English TV channels, and there’s no elevator up to the first floor.
