City Comfort Hotel

A real plus is the free self-service laundry and dryer, though you’ll need to bring your own detergent. The area is quiet, and the hotel offers free congee from 9pm to 2am. The rooms without windows are alright, with complete darkness at night. The beds called king are actually two double beds pushed together. The location isn’t very convenient for public transit or malls, especially in the heat. Unless you’re happy to order a car all the time, you’ll get worn out walking in the sun. Housekeeping didn’t wash my coffee mug, as the picture showed, and only refilled the instant coffee.

The hygiene was awful. I found little cockroaches in the cup, and when I entered at night and switched on the light, there were 5-6 on the floor. I had to change hotels in the middle of the night. There was mold everywhere and the ceiling was peeling. The air conditioning, toilet, and tap all seemed antique and noisy, and the corner light couldn’t be turned off.

Getting around is easy from here, with MRT Merdeka, MRT Pasar Seni, LRT Plaza Rakyat, LRT Pasar Seni, LRT Masjid Jamek, and Pudu Raya Bus Terminal nearby. Petaling Street (Chinatown), Bukit Bintang, and Central Market are all walkable, which makes the location practical for business or leisure. The room experience was less good. Some rooms have poor sound insulation, so street noise, neighbors, and even connecting doors can be heard. If quiet matters, ask for a room without a connecting door and away from the street. Our desk phone didn’t work, and the hotel couldn’t replace it. International visitors may want enough local mobile credit to call the front desk themselves. Service could improve too. The front desk interactions felt transactional rather than welcoming, and more consistent hospitality training would help. We asked for bottled water while still within our checkout window and were refused because we weren’t checking in again that day. Small gestures like that affect the guest experience. The location is undeniably convenient, but the hotel needs to improve guest service and room comfort to make for a more pleasant, memorable stay.

The staff were okay, but the room was so bad I wish I could give it zero stars. It smelled strongly of cigarettes even though I asked for a non-smoking room. They first put me in 308, which smelled really bad. Then they moved me to 309, but neither I nor the staff could open the door. After 20 frustrating minutes, I got room 301, which still had some, though less, smoking smell. There’s no fridge or microwave, and there’s no air conditioning in the elevator. I don’t recommend it. If you want the same experience I had, go ahead and book. Good luck if you stay here.
