Goldbrick Hotel

The hotel is on the second floor, and once you get inside it's a clean, homey place with nice staff. The entrance outside is very dirty, though. Staff seemed confused by an extra request about arrival time, such as AM or PM. The room was clean and air-conditioned, if a bit small. There's no hotel sign, so look for the Palm Lodge Hotel sign beside the Guardian drug store, go through the small door with stairs, then take the lift to the second floor. The location is superb, which makes it good for a solo traveller.

We arrived at Goldbrick Hotel at 5 PM with a reservation we had made online three weeks earlier, but they said they were full and had no room. After I pointed out the booking, the explanation changed to an electrical problem. They offered no help finding another hotel or assisting us. They asked us to cancel the reservation ourselves, but I said no because that would mean paying a cancellation fee. They refused to cancel it on their end. My husband and I were left without a hotel in a foreign country, unable to walk around in the rain. This was unacceptable.

This is a very cheap, basic budget hotel in an old, poorly maintained building. I booked through booking dot com, where the room photos clearly showed windows, but after check-in I was given a room without them and told I'd have to pay extra for a window room, which looks out onto the balcony. The listing also says the rooms are soundproofed, but they aren't. I wouldn't give it one star if the booking information and photos weren't such a blatant lie. Don't ruin your holidays.

The room didn't seem fully prepared for the next guest. The TV was broken, there was no wardrobe, and we put our clothes on the floor. To hang anything, we had to use the door knob. The toilet seat cover was broken too. Liquid soap was the only toiletries provided, and we still had to ask for it. Not a good experience.
