Hotel Olympic Malaysia

The staff were courteous and quick to help whenever I had a question, and the location made it easy to get around and see nearby shops and attractions. I stayed at Hotel Olympic Malaysia for a few nights and was pleasantly surprised by how convenient and comfortable it was. The room was clean, well kept, and had what I needed for a short stay. It was good value for the price, and I’d consider staying here again on a future trip.

This is a long overdue review. We broke our fast here, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Guests could only take food once the call to prayer had started, which wasn’t practical. They could have been more lenient with the children, since they weren’t fasting. The staff weren’t friendly and came across as unwilling to accommodate us. The room wasn’t spotless, though it was somewhat clean. We booked a room with a double-decker house play structure, but I don’t think it was built with safety in mind. Everything was below average. Maybe others would like it, but it wasn’t to my taste.

For the price, it’s serviceable, as long as you manage your expectations. Maybe pack a surge protector and a sense of humor. The hotel sits right beside mass transit, which is handy, but the noise is something else. At first we thought jets were taking off next door. Then there’s the nearby mosque’s early morning call to prayer, so bring industrial-grade earplugs. The windows aren’t doing much for soundproofing. Chinatown is about a 15-minute walk away, and we survived the night. The place feels like it once had big ambitions, with a grand lobby and the bones of something that might have turned heads a decade ago. These days it has a landlord-special feel. Reception was lukewarm. Our room looked patch-repaired, as if maintenance used whatever was lying around without much care. The shower panel seemed to have survived a small war. A couple of outlets were smashed and possibly dangerous, and some didn’t work at all. Room service never came, though all we wanted was water to brush our teeth. That’s a basic essential.

The location is excellent for a KL city stay: the metro is right next door, Merdeka 118 is nearby, Chinatown is a short walk away, and KL Tower was visible from our room. I stayed for over a week across three different rooms and had a decent experience overall. A couple of the rooms had plumbing issues, but the convenience and prime location made up for it. Good value.
