The parking was the main hassle. It was very difficult to find a spot, and we might have had to park far away and walk back, which would be inconvenient with luggage. Otherwise, the price was reasonable, the room was comfortable with a distinctive design, and the amenities were adequate. The stylish lobby gave a modern, welcoming first impression. A pleasant stay at STEG Hotel Kuala Lumpur, especially if you like unusual room design and don’t mind the parking challenge.

I’ve stayed at this hotel whenever I come to KL, but the service has been getting worse. The most alarming issue was a stranger trying to open our room door. I reported it and confirmed what happened twice, yet the front desk still said there was nothing they could do. If the hotel can’t ensure guests’ safety, why charge such a high price? I also called ahead because my itinerary changed and asked about early check-in. I was clearly told it was possible for an extra charge, so I arrived expecting that. Then staff said they would never have told me that. I wouldn’t have been so upset if they’d simply said there was no room available. I waited and returned to check in at 3:00 PM as instructed, but the room still wasn’t ready and was being cleaned. A housekeeper also entered our room with a spare key without permission. When I called to ask why, they said the room’s electricity was on. That explanation was ridiculous. Does switching on the electricity mean I’m running a sauna in the room? The staff’s attitude and handling of the harassment and safety issue were unacceptable for a hotel at this level. I can provide photos of the relevant staff members if needed. Very disappointing, and not the standard I used to expect here.

Breakfast was pretty basic, just standard local food. Parking isn’t free: hotel parking is RM4/day about 60m away, while valet is RM12/day with limited spaces. The central Kuala Lumpur location helps make up for this feeling like an average boutique hotel despite the 4-star rating. I found the label a bit misleading. I hope this helps you make a better choice.

I booked a double room on the highest floor, and it felt very cozy with a view over KL City. The receptionist was helpful and pointed out nearby necessities and affordable parking. There were lots of Caucasians around, and valet parking was available. Parking is limited in a city like KL, though, so DBKL will surely mark your car.
