We had to sort out a booking problem first: they hadn't received our discounted Agoda reservation, so we called Agoda for a refund and paid the full rate for two nights. The room was quite dirty, the bathrooms weren't great, and the atmosphere felt strange. We couldn't sleep, then found two large bed bugs. Reception gave us fresh sheets, but we still weren't comfortable, so we found another guesthouse and kept asking until we got a full refund. To be fair, the people were quite nice when we arrived: someone offered me watermelon and a woman brought a fan. Still, bed bugs that big suggest they've been there a while and the room hasn't been cleaned properly. I'd spend a bit more for better accommodation.

Sleep was impossible with all the noise. Drunk people came in from the pubs through the night and into the morning, shouting, laughing, and calling to one another in the hallways. The old jalousie windows were missing pieces of glass, so smoke and sound came straight into the room. It was loud, smoky, dirty, and there was no privacy. Near the sinks, people were constantly coughing things up and spitting, leaving the drains blocked. Some even washed their feet there. Would you want to wash your face or brush your teeth in those clogged sinks?
Some of the toilet locks were broken, and there weren't enough toilets for everyone on the floor. The staff experience was terrible too. One employee said they would serve breakfast half an hour early because I had to leave for the airport, but the next morning he said that wasn't happening. I left without breakfast, which had been one of the main reasons I'd booked this place.
The rooms were basic and cheap, but not very clean. People smoked constantly in the stairwells, and the smell spread everywhere. The staff and guests seemed a bit sad too. It was a depressing place.
The place is a little run down, but the owners are nice and breakfast is free. There's a Tamil Temple nearby, along with an Indian restaurant that serves great food. Recommended.
