The beach was clean and the sea calm and fairly clear, though there were quite a few barrel jellyfish. They weren’t the big dangerous kind, but they can sting, so I wouldn’t let kids swim without someone watching them. A few sandflies showed up the next morning, but not enough to be much of a nuisance. Dogs, probably from another village, got into the trash bin around midnight, so keep food inside your tent or car. The campsite itself was in good condition, with parking behind it, a bench and table, restrooms, and a shower. The barbecue area costs extra. The men’s shower has no door or curtain and faces the back of the cafe, so you can’t be seen, but I still felt uncomfortable using it. Since there were no other campers, I used the women’s shower, and I’m pretty sure nobody minded. The campsite price is as listed, plus RM5 entrance. I’m not sure why overnight guests have to pay that too, since it seems more suited to people stopping for a picnic or day trip. All in all, a good campsite in kuala penyu. I’d definitely come back.
