Hotel Tanjong Vista

22nd Dec 2025 Solo traveller I’d stay again, but I’d check that the room was ready before confirming. The hotel has seen better days: it felt old and tired, fixtures were breaking down, and even the Premium Suite AC still felt warm at night. When I first got there, my booked room wasn’t available because repairs were incomplete, which was a red flag. They moved me to a Premium Suite on the 7th floor. I went down to reception before heading to the mall because the room was hot, and asked them to fix the shower handle, AC, and missing kettle. All were sorted by the time I returned two hours later. The hotel is on the busy Sultan Zainal Abidin street in central Kuala Terengganu, near the Terengganu Drawbridge, KTCC Mall, and The Mayang Mall. Sultan Mahmud Airport is about 15 minutes away, Shahbandar Jetty around five minutes, and Chinatown and Pasar Payang are nearby. There are plenty of cafes and food places along the street. Check-in was quick. The suite had a small living area with a TV, mini-fridge, two bottles of water, two tall glasses, and a coffee and tea set, but no kettle. The AC in the living area worked well, though the one in the bedroom was hot. The wall facing the main road felt hot to the touch, presumably from the daytime sun, and cooled down around 8pm. The bed, pillows, and linens were fresh and good. There was a wardrobe with good-quality hangers, a prayer mat, iron and board, a work table and chair, and the lights, switches, TV, and power points worked well. The view included KTCC Mall and part of the beach. The bathroom had a bathtub, disposables, and two short glasses. The shower screen was loose, so don’t hold it getting in or out of the tub. When I tried to turn on the shower, the handle came off. What a shocker! Water pressure and hot water were good. Breakfast in the lobby was good, with lots of Western and local dishes, salads, and drinks. The staff showed real Malaysian hospitality and care. I especially want to compliment the two reception ladies for their attention and dedication. Sorry I didn’t get their names. Please pass along my thanks. Thank you, Tanjong Vista Hotel.

The breakfast was a letdown, with very few options, and by the time we arrived there was nothing to choose from, so we ate elsewhere. The lifts were another problem: there are only two and the crowds meant waiting through several rounds to get on. We had booked Ocean View, but at check-in the staff said none were available. I asked twice more, but they couldn’t resolve it.

22-4-2026: The hotel feels dated. The carpet in my room was stained, and the display on the wall AC controller was almost impossible to read, making the temperature hard to set. Breakfast had a limited spread and didn’t taste very good.

The AC temperature was good, but my business trip stay was so-so. There weren’t many charging points, the layout was weird, and the in-house staff weren’t friendly. Housekeeping was bad, too. I called for them, but they never came.
