First Guest House

I booked through Agoda and got a good deal, RM130 for two nights. I was travelling alone and felt safe. The location is convenient, with the beach just across the road and small restaurants nearby serving breakfast from 7am, lunch, and seafood dinners. Teluk Cempedak is about 10 minutes away.

There's plenty of parking, strong Wi-Fi, and a water dispenser. The rooms are plain but clean. Guests can use the kitchen, and laundry service is available for RM5 per 1kg.

Good points: the location, working TV and Wi-Fi, new air conditioning, okay water pressure, firm bed, and clean linen and towel. The nearby call to worship is audible, which may suit people who want that. But the room smelled, the water heater leaked and didn't work, the shower head was faulty, and a previous guest's soap was still there. No toilet paper was provided, so I had to ask, and there's no complimentary drinking water. The C section room door lock was faulty, and the staff member handling the place seemed poorly trained to deal with problems. There was no table, and I had to look around for things like a cup and the water dispenser. Google listed a satay stall nearby or across the road, but it wasn't there. 4/10.

The beach is just across the main road, with lots of activities there in the evening, so it's a nice place for backpackers. My room was clean and nice, the air conditioning was cool, and the customer service representative was kind. They gave me a sachet of coffee to try from Bangladesh. The water flow was a bit slow, though. It was nice and cool here 😊.
