Hotel Makmur Kuantan

The location is the main drawback. The hotel sits among wide roads with heavy traffic, and the malls are some distance away. There aren’t many nearby places to eat, either. Inside, everything feels spacious, from the lobby and hallways to the rooms and bathrooms. RM150 a night with breakfast included is a reasonable price.

The room was quite clean and very large, with cold enough AC. The bathroom is spacious too, and the water pressure is strong. It also holds the wardrobe, safe, and mini fridge, which is an odd setup: when someone is using the bathroom, nobody else can get to those things. Moving the door or adding one between the bathroom and wardrobe could have helped. The hotel feels dated. The furniture needs replacing, and the corridors made a poor first impression, with wallpaper peeling and laminated flooring in rough shape. Towels are old and should have been changed long ago. There’s only a rain shower, no hand shower, so adjusting the temperature is awkward. Even with shower caps provided, showering without getting your hair wet is a hassle. Parking is stressful. They’ve packed in lots of spaces, leaving tight turns, and the ramp at the entrance is steep. To leave, you have to cross into the entrance lane to make a sharp left U-turn. In a larger car or SUV, like mine, getting around those corners takes care. The road outside is often congested on weekends. You can also hear street noise because the hotel is right beside a busy road, though it does get quieter later at night.

The hotel staff and management were kind about changing my booking after our transport problems disrupted a planned 2025 benchmarking visit. We had booked two nights, but could only ask to defer one night at first. They agreed, then later extended the stay to January 2026. I’m very grateful for that. The customer service representative and front desk also did a good job. When we arrived late in the evening, they had even set aside bus parking, though our group had been reduced and we were using a tour van instead. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious, with a lovely view over Kuantan town. From the seventh floor I could see the South China Sea as well. It’s centrally located. On Saturday night, a night market and a Pasar Tani were within walking distance. Breakfast had a decent selection of Malaysian favorites and bread. The rates aren’t too expensive, and if I’m in Kuantan again, I’d consider staying here.

The city view was nice, and the hotel is conveniently located near shops. I checked in with my family, and the stay was okay overall. Breakfast could be better, especially the bread area. The oven toaster they use isn’t convenient for hotel guests, so a guest friendly toaster that handles several slices at once would help. Check-in at reception also shouldn’t take so long.
