D'Green Hotel Kuching

There was lots of hair and other rubbish in the rooms, which weren't clean. The hotel also started maintenance work around 7am, and a nightclub next door kept the music at full volume late into the night.

It's a simple but decent hotel, quite close to the waterfront, with most places of interest within walking distance. There are bars, restaurants and a 7-eleven nearby. There's a good breakfast restaurant right behind it, next to the famous Ceylonese Restaurant. The shower had a slight funky smell that could be improved, but getting to check in early was a nice bonus for us.

The location made the stay worthwhile: the Waterfront and plenty of well-known places to eat are an easy walk away, with a local mart across the road and a 7-Eleven nearby. The walls are quite thin, though. I stayed in a Standard King room with a window. It had a king bed, hair dryer, TV, writing table, chairs and a bench. It was clean, but could use a bit more attention. D'Green Hotel is decent, with very basic facilities, and the rooms have been refreshed recently.

I picked this hotel because the price looked good and I wanted somewhere comfortable as a woman travelling solo in a new town. It worked out well. The room was fairly spacious, the bed was nice, the hot water refreshing, the A/C worked well, and the staff were friendly. The Waterfront, Borneo Cultures Museums and Chinatown were all walkable, with several places to eat and minimarts close by for daily needs or a late cup of coffee. A few things to know: noise from nearby clubs and bars could be heard at night, though it was muffled in my room. I can't say how it is in the other rooms, so ask about a quieter one if that's important. There was a hair dryer and kettle, but the kettle switch seemed broken. I got it to work somehow and only used it once. I hope the hotel checks and fixes faulty switches and appliances. I forgot to report it while I was there. Only soap and shampoo were supplied, so bring a toothbrush, toothpaste and anything else you need. The towels were clean, but looked a little old.
