Abdul, the buggy driver, was incredibly kind and helpful while I was unwell, and the reception staff and leisure lady were also wonderful. Hasan, the manager, listened to my concerns and arranged some compensation. Their efforts kept this from becoming a much more negative review. The property itself is very pleasing, with great views and an incredible interior, and it has potential. Still, I had significant problems during a very busy holiday period, when service standards seemed to suffer. While I was ill, drinking water took a long time to reach my room, which worried me because of the risk of dehydration. Restaurant service also went wrong repeatedly. I had clearly explained my dietary requirements, but meals arrived incorrectly more than once, so I couldn't eat what was served. These weren't just isolated mistakes: avoidable errors continued even after management was involved. For a resort charging premium prices, I expected better attention to detail and communication between departments. There seem to be serious operational and service issues to address, especially at full capacity during peak holidays. The reception and buggy staff are a credit to the place, but the operations management needs considerable work for the resort to reach its potential.

The children had a great time at the beach and swimming pool, and the resort's buggy and van services were handy. We stayed in a chalet with a good room and a very comfortable bed, though the bed was a little high for younger kids. Breakfast had plenty of choices, and the nasi lemak was especially tasty. Thanks to the reservation officer for replying so promptly. We had a wonderful stay at Damai Beach Resort, with excellent service, and would highly recommend it.

The location is still a gem, and I would love to feel that welcoming tropical resort atmosphere here again. I came back to Damai Beach Resort after a long time away. It is well maintained, and the staff were courteous and helpful, but somehow the happy resort feeling was missing. The room greeted us with a prominent set of rules and warnings. The TV didn't work, and I was told that's how it is. There was no WiFi and basic personal toiletries were missing. Given the rate and the stars the resort displays, I hadn't expected these to be ongoing issues, especially with the strict entry control these days. Its social and technical aspects may need updating to keep up with newer resorts. The 70-80s tropical resort architecture is part of its character, and I understand that. But the upgrades and refurbishments haven't lifted the image enough. In particular, the local ethnic motifs in the interior design and fittings are used very blatantly. With understanding, respect and finesse, they could be refined and used to better promote and appreciate Sarawak's ethnic arts.

The rooms were mostly pleasant, and the food was decent, to their credit. But running an event here was exhausting. We put a lot of work into the pre-event instructions, and most of them were ignored, so we had to keep stepping in. The hotel's responses were slow at best and showed total disregard at worst. Not likely to come back.

The hillside roundavilles have stunning views and are awesome, though they're starting to look a bit tired. The location itself is beautiful, but you'll need a taxi to get around. I imagine this place was great when it first opened; now it could use some TLC. The food wasn't great, and the beach bar was open only once during our stay. We did go very early in the season.
