Baron Waterfront Hotel

We’d booked the higher-rated, more expensive Baron Hotel, but it was closed. Its management took us to the lower-rated, cheaper Waterfront property, even though we had paid more for the original booking. The upgraded room they gave us had nothing and was dirty, with chipped furniture. The bath towel looked dirty, so I didn’t use it. We weren’t given any refund despite staying at the lower-priced property. This is an issue for the owner and Booking.com. Baron should have blocked bookings at the closed property, since I wouldn’t have chosen the Waterfront, which was rated 6.2. The staff at Baron were very nice, and it seems three of their properties were closed. Five stars for the staff, but the booking mishap was down to Booking.com or the property owner.

It’s easy to get to town, the jetty and restaurants from here, and the price is very affordable for budget travelers. The rooms are spacious enough for a family with three children. Some routine maintenance is needed, though. For example, the air conditioners aren’t cool enough for the Malaysian climate.

This is a very budget hotel, old and big, and the room lighting is quite dim. They should change the lighting. The blanket was comfortable but smelly. I found a big stone beside my bed and asked reception what it was for. They said maybe a previous guest had brought it in. When I asked if I could remove it, they told me to leave it there. What was the stone for? It felt scary, and sleeping next to an unknown stone made me think negative things. I hope the hotel removes unnecessary things from rooms that could make guests uncomfortable. They also won’t provide room service during a two-night stay unless you request it.

Cheap and useful. It’s a nice motel and could suit you if you just want to enjoy your time in Langkawi without looking for an expensive five-star hotel. The room is big enough for three people, and the bathroom is a good size. They also offer island-hopping at normal prices and provide transportation.
