The room was comfortable and better than the pictures, and for the price I thought it was good value. It felt homely and had a kitchen area and a fridge, which we hadn’t realized when booking. The fridge was stocked with drinks at cheap prices. The shower worked well, the bed was comfortable, and the location was great, just a two-minute walk from the main strip. Larry was fantastic at check-in. He walked us through the room and its features, including how to use the AC and shower, and gave us helpful suggestions for activities in the area. We’d seen reviews about overcharging and cancelled stays before we arrived, so we were concerned. The only price question was Larry checking whether the tourism tax was included in the Booking.com amount. We showed him the PDF receipt in the app, which confirmed the correct price, and that was that. As long as you can show that receipt, which is easy to find in the app, there shouldn’t be extra charges. There were a couple of drawbacks. Nobody was really around to ask whether we wanted the room cleaned, so it wasn’t cleaned at all during our few days. The AC worked, but was definitely faulty and didn’t blow as cold as it should. Luckily there was a fan in the room, and that’s how we stayed cool.

The location worked well for us, close to the main street, and we stayed there while working remotely. The Wi-Fi was very good for that. When we found cobwebs in the corners and asked for a deep clean, they responded quickly and came the same day to do a more thorough job. Still, I don’t think the price is affordable for the state of the room. They sometimes cancel at the last minute, often because the online price is lower than the actual one. Prices start at 124 RM. If having a kitchen matters to you, though, there aren’t many other choices in the area. Cleaning only happens every 3-4 days. With a kitchen in a place like this, ants show up quickly if you leave even a crumb of bread, so you have to be careful. The bed wasn’t very comfortable because one side of the mattress was deformed. The space is small for working, with just a little table, no wardrobe, and very little light since there are no windows inside the room. I’d recommend it for a short stay, but it may not suit a longer visit or anyone wanting a roomier, more comfortable setup.

I booked ahead online, but when I arrived to check in, staff said the listed price was wrong and the actual price was more than twice as much. If I paid extra, my room would be ready. I didn’t set the price incorrectly, so I don’t see why I had to bear the cost. They also cancelled without contacting me. I was forced into extra costs in time, emotions, effort, and money. Staff said “similar problems occur frequently,” which made it sound like they had no intention of improving. The guests who came after me were exhausted too. The owner seems to like running this kind of exploitative business.

The homestay is clean and quiet, feels like home, and is in a handy spot close to the airport, beach, and shopping areas. I recommend staying here. Terimakasih Mr. Larry🫶🏻
