Sandy Beach Resort Langkawi

The beach is right there, but there are no sunbeds included; renting one for two people costs 50 MYR a day. Breakfast was okay, though the American option had run out by the time we arrived on the first day. The filtered water machine downstairs was broken and stayed that way for our whole visit. We also had three cockroaches in the bathroom. The room's kettle was a nice touch and the AC worked, but the area was noisy enough that we needed earplugs. One pillow was badly moldy, and I had to take antihistamines to sleep. They cleaned daily and changed the towels, but the towels smelled strongly of cleanser. You're mainly paying for the beach access and location. The hotel needs overdue maintenance and renovation, including replacing the pillows and sheets.

The location is fantastic, right on the beach, with water sports going on all day and lots of shops and places to eat nearby. Just keep in mind many places close from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., so lunch options are limited if you have young kids who need to eat around noon and don't want to leave the area. Parking across the road is good, and there's a self-service laundromat beside the car park. The rooms look worn, but everything worked and the beds were really comfortable. Staff were helpful, though a communication gap between the kitchen and wait staff meant we missed about half the items advertised with our big breakfast. I'd still recommend it and stay again.

The restaurant's setting is the one real plus: it's right by the beach, you can watch the sea while sitting there, and the food is good. The front desk and restaurant staff were also helpful. But the hotel itself was awful. Rooms are tiny and old, almost like a dorm, and you can hear the people next door talking and even flushing. The toilets were bad and out of order, and the AC didn't work. The chalets are cramped and very small too, and not all face the sea. The sheesha was good, but I wouldn't stay here.

We wanted a quiet, straightforward beach break at Sandy Beach Resort, and the room was clean and simple, with a basic balcony facing the sea. Being right on the sand is the best part, especially for sunset walks and hearing the waves.
